Artisan bakery baking naturally leavened bread and pastries using heirloom grains from regional farmers

“Good bread is the most fundamentally satisfying of all foods; and good bread with fresh butter, the greatest of feasts.” James Beard

My name is Tylor Alexander, founder of Pilgrim Bread. Since 2018, I’ve been baking with regionally grown grains and inviting community to the table here in Tidewater, Virginia.

This summer I completed the Professional Bread & Viennoiserie Program at the San Francisco Baking Institute—an intensive seven-week training that deepened my craft and expanded my vision for what Pilgrim Bread can become.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to bring this learning home through new projects in Tidewater: a mixed-use flagship with café, bakery, and stone mill; expanded wholesale and retail offerings; and educational programs that connect people more closely to bread, grain, and the land.

Pilgrim Bread remains a labor of love—rooted in family, community, and the belief that each loaf can nourish both body and spirit.

May it offer strength for your journey.

It's always been more than food: bread embodies hospitality, gathers people of all kinds, and creates space to share meals, celebrate, and build together.
